I have a Facebook account, a webcomic, a Twitter account and this blog. All these things demand a certain amount of presence and attention. In addition to this, I am trying to maintain a presence on two different forums and occasionally make appearances on a podcast. I work long night shifts on a 3-day rotation.

Also, I have a wife and kid.

I finally found the settings on Facebook to make it update from Twitter. Also, I finally found how to make Facebook tell me when it needs my attention. Still, I don’t have the time to actually sit there and read its feed to see what everyone is doing.

Similarly, I no longer read all my twitter updates, although I suspect when I finally get ’round to setting up the groups function that will be easier.

This blog was supposed to have a post a day, but I fell behind over the holidays. I’m trying!

I wrote three scripts for the comic today and did the captions for the new page, which will be up tonight.

I only have a few friends and I barely talk to them anymore. This bothers me.

My extended family communicate mostly on an email group. I skim this to make sure nothing important is happening.

I try to call my mother often. I skim my sister’s blog-posts, or I ask my wife to give me a summary of them. I have no idea what’s going on with my dad and his immediate family.

Meanwhile I have a wife with the same issues as me and a 4-year-old who wants 24 hour attention. (Spoiler: he’s not going to get it)

If I seem distant or reclusive, it’s because I’m treading water socially, trying to keep my face above the surface. I am trying hard to continue breathing the air of human companionship and communication.

This does not mean you should leave me alone! If what I’ve described sounds lonely, well, it is. If you want to talk to me, do so! Send me a message! Call me! Drop by my home! I am so very, very willing to be a part of your life.

I just don’t have the time to reach out to anyone anymore.

No worries dude. Just working and supporting your family is a noble and honourable thing, and there’s no foul in concentrating on that instead of kicking it outside the school.

True enough. Still, it means a lot ot me that some of you make the effort to stay connected. For instance, by reading and commenting here ;)
    Thanks dude.
