My First Review: Iron Man

Okay, so my birthday gift to myself was a trip to the movies to see Iron Man… and let me say, oh my god, it was good. I’ll try not to spoil anything for those that havent seen it, but I make no promises.

First off, the story itself was great, they followed the comic canon to the letter, his origin and character model was perfect. The writing was incredible, funny at the right points, serious when it needed to be. They truly spent some time writing this story and doing their research to make good move. The characters were fully fleshed out, I actually cared if something happened to them, even the minor characters, a rare thing for Hollywood to do these days.

Visually, this movie was moving poetry, the cgi for the suit was so goddamn beautiful, it made my little artistic brain squee with delight. They again did their research and made sure they had all their bases covered. The set design was gorgeous, the tech design for Stark’s toys was the such to made any comic nerd pleased and slightly jealous that those toys dont exist yet.

The soundtrack… where to start… I loved it, simple as that. It invoked emotion at the correct points, but wasnt so overpowering to take away from the movie. Again this was something they obviously spent some time and effort on. I highly recommend snagging the soundtrack for listening pleasure to anyone.

What amazed so much about Iron Man, is that the crew, director and actors all really seemed to care that they made a movie true to the Iron Man legend. This was obviously an act of love for the director, and Robert Downey Jr. makes a wonderful Stark, and you can tell by watching it that he enjoyed making this movie, and it wouldnt surprise me if he was a fan of the comic book before signing on to do the movie.

Seriously, if you havent seen this movie, I recommend you go and see it, it one of those few movies that is worth seeing in theaters these days. I was so impressed at this piece that I will probably be dragging James to see it when I get to Calgary. This probably the best movie I have seen since Sweeny Todd, it made me laugh, gasp, and kept me on the edge of my seat at all the right moments.

Comic will be up later on today… I promise, its nearly finished… I got sidetracked…

“What amazed so much about Iron Man, is that the crew, director and actors all really seemed to care that they made a movie true to the Iron Man legend.”
Main reason: this is the first movie ever produced by Marvel Studios in which Marvel retained total creative control, rather than just selling the rights and hoping for the best. Now that the movies have been established as a moneymaker and it’s been shown that something that makes fans happy will also sell well, I predict more of the same: excellent true-to-form movies, and even crossovers. It’s just too bad they sold Spiderman up to #6.

I have to correct you on something James, Superman is not a marvel character, he’s DC (Detective Comics). So for the next 2 Superman movies, if they stink, Marvel wont be affected.

Umm… you are the one that is incorrect… he didnt mention Superman… I believe that says SPIDERman….

OOPS.. sorry, still waking up. Eyes are shot, My mistake and sorry. Yes, SPIDERman for the next few movies WILL suck. Speculation for the next movie is that Carnage and Electro will be in there. I’d rather see the Lizard then electro.
