CttC #044 - Down With The Sickness
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m stalling with this comic. It’s all about pacing and anticipation. What is Emo’s plan? What is Jim doing on the couch there? Who is Jill, really, and will she try to kill anyone?
Believe me, it’s worse for me, knowing the answers and wanting to see ‘em and having to wait….

Well I actually read through the archive. Why I didn’t stop after the first few, I don’t know. I kept hoping at some point there’d be something funny or redeeming. This comic is terrible. The Internet is a wasteland of terrible comics, and this is certainly one of them.
It was so bad I felt compelled to actually comment on it, just so you wouldn’t think that my traffic meant you picked up a new reader. Please do the world a favour and get funny, or just stop.

I too went through the archive, and I disagree. The art has improved a lot in the short time it has been here. I mean, anatomy has taken a quantum leap.
Writing is getting better too. Right now the strip seems to be trying to balance gag-a-day with ongoing plot development, which isn’t easy to do. I’d like to see more character development, but I’m sure that will happen as the cartoonist finds his voice and hones his skill. At least they are avoiding the overworked ground of Computer Gaming and Comedy Romance.
No, it isn’t gold. Yet. But if it keeps improving at this rate it will be one to watch. I will subscribe and see how things develop.

Thanks for your input. It’s always very gratifying to get constructive or positive comments. You’re right, when I started writing this it was just a n outlet for the funny crap my friends and I were doing, but my muse has insisted in going a more dramatic direction, developing characters and building plotlines. And while it’s impossible to entirely avoid playing into known tropes of writing, I’m trying to keep things as fresh as I can.
You’re also right about the plot-driven-gag-comic format. I’m a regular reader of Questionable Content (linked to the right), and I try to emulate the same pace of keeping things moving while constantly using the last panel for amusing punchlines.
As for the previous comment, well, part of being on the internet is accepting that not everyone is going to like your work and some people are going to feel the need to express it. The positive feedback still far outweighs the negative, and for a comic with furry characters in it that’s been linked in the SomethingAwful forums, that’s saying a lot.
