Okay, the site upgrade (new version of Wordpress and new version of the Comicpress theme) basically meant that I build the site from the ground up - and in only about 5 hours, too!
Changes are largely back-end. Emphasis on the LARGE. The new versions are freaking incredible. There’s almost nothing hard-coded on the site now… just the avatar placement, banners on the header and footer and a couple strategically placed page breaks for spacing.
What IS new is that you, the users, can now more easily have an avatar on this site. And not just on this site - on EVERY site running Wordpress 2.5 or later with a theme supporting it. That’s right, Wordpress now has native support for Gravatars - Globally Recognized Avatars. Just surf on over to gravatar.com and make a free account, then upload an 80×80 avatar image, and you’re good to go!
Close to the Chest supports Gravatars based on the email address of the poster. You don’t even have to register.
More news as I add features.
Now live:
-Ratings of posts: Add a rating to your favorite (or least favorite) post. If this feature becomes popular, I may use it to help determine what direction to take the comic.
-Main image link: I’m particularly proud of this one, as I had to learn a fair bit of PHP code and WordPress functions to get it working right. The comic is now presented as a link. If you are viewing the latest comic, it will link to the main page. If you are viewing any past comic, it will link to the next comic.
Believe me, it was harder to do than it sounds…
Any suggestions for other features? All will be considered. Sound off!
